Indefinite Pool Closure

Warren, AR - The Donald W. Reynolds YMCA of Warren and Bradley County announces the indefinite closure of its pool facility following the results of an annual inspection conducted by the Arkansas Department of Health.

The inspection report identified three major repair requirements necessary to meet health and safety standards: resurface pool with new plaster, replace waterline, skimmer cap and racing lane tile, and replace all skimmer grating. After obtaining a professional consultation and written estimate, the YMCA has been informed that the cost of these repairs will be a minimum of $145,000; however, due to the pool having a history of flooding due to its location in a flood zone, it's possible those repairs could increase substantially. Additionally, the scope of work required would not fit the timeline to have the pool completed by the upcoming summer season.

The safety and well-being of YMCA members and the community remain the organization's top priority. As a result of the recent inspection, the difficult decision has been made to close the pool until the staff, board members and foundation members can reach a decision on whether the pool can move forward due to significant repair costs, high annual mechanical and maintenance costs, and long-term capital investment requirements.

Despite the setback, YMCA staff and board members are actively working in partnership with the City of Warren to ensure continued access to aquatic programming. Plans are currently underway to offer swim lessons, water aerobics, and other water-based activities at the city pool.

"While this is a challenging situation, we are committed to finding solutions that allow us to continue serving our members and the community." Donald W. Reynolds YMCA Board Members

Further updates will be shared as more information becomes available regarding programming and timelines for potential future repairs.
